Job description

Head Barista / All-Rounder

£15 per hour | Kaffee, Putney

We’re looking for an experienced, confident and friendly Head Barista / All-Rounder to join our small team at Kaffee, our independent Viennese-inspired café in Putney.

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves making excellent coffee but is also happy to get involved in every part of café service. Weekends are our busiest time, so we’re looking for someone who works quickly, stays calm under pressure and enjoys being part of a fast-paced team.

The role

30-36 hours/ week 

You’ll be responsible for:

• Preparing consistently excellent coffee and maintaining high coffee standards

• Setting up and managing the coffee station during busy services

• Dialling in and adjusting the grinder throughout the day

• Supporting and training other baristas

• Keeping the coffee machine, grinder and bar area clean and well maintained

• Working quickly and efficiently during very busy weekend services

• Taking orders, serving food and drinks and helping with general front-of-house duties

• Multitasking between coffee, customers, clearing tables and supporting the wider team

• Helping the team stay organised and calm during busy periods

• Handling customer questions or complaints confidently, warmly and professionally

• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and customer service

• Opening and closing the cafe 

• Being willing to help wherever needed — we are a small café, so everyone is an all-rounder

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has at least 1 year of experience working as a Head Barista or in a similar senior barista position

• Has excellent espresso and milk-steaming skills

• Is confident working at speed and under pressure

• Has strong weekend availability

• Is friendly, reliable and naturally good with customers

• Can multitask and prioritise without becoming overwhelmed during busy services

• Is comfortable dealing with customer complaints and finding sensible solutions

• Is a team player and happy to help with all aspects of café service

• Takes pride in keeping their workstation clean and organised

• Has good communication and leadership skills

Experience with La Marzocco espresso machines and Mahlkönig grinders is a big plus.

Kaffee is an independent Viennese-inspired café in Putney, serving speciality coffee, cakes, Austrian favourites and delicious things in a unique setting. We’re a small team, so we value people who are warm, hardworking, flexible and willing to get stuck in.

Pay: £15 per hour

Availability: Most weekends are essential.
