Support us in cultivating a sustainable future for our community

Sutton Community Farm is seeking a Fundraising and Impact Expert to join our Management Committee.

This is your chance to join a vibrant farm community dedicated to sustainable, local food production and community wellbeing.

  • Role: Voluntary Management Committee Member (providing strategic guidance and practical support)

  • Time Commitment: 8–10 hours per month

  • Meetings: Evening committee meeting every two months (1.5 hours, usually on Tues or Wed)

  • Term Length: 3 years

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced fundraising and impact specialist to help guide our farm’s financial sustainability and community outreach.

Over the past decade, we've built a thriving community enterprise delivering fresh, organic produce to hundreds of households each week. While our customers love our products and our margins are strong, we’re doing a lot for the community and environment that isn’t currently financially viable. To continue making a positive impact, we need an expert to shape and drive our fundraising strategy in collaboration with our volunteers and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to strategic direction and governance oversight
  • Develop and lead a realistic fundraising strategy tailored to a resource-lean organisation
  • Identify suitable grant opportunities and oversee key funding applications
  • Guide and support volunteers participating in fundraising and impact tracking efforts
  • Help measure, evaluate, and communicate the social and environmental impact of our work
  • Attend bi-monthly committee meetings and report on ongoing fundraising progress

Desired Skills

  • Proven track record in securing funding, with in-depth expertise in grant fundraising at an operational and strategic level
  • Broad experience across direct and indirect fundraising channels
  • Good knowledge of the UK funding landscape and its priorities, ideally for community, health, local food, farming, and/or environment.
  • Experience in keeping funders engaged
  • Strong commercial skills to help ensure full cost recovery on funded projects
  • Ability to design simple frameworks for measuring and reporting project impact.
  • Strong collaborative communication and a proactive approach
  • Interest in sustainable food production and building a deeper connection to the farm and local community
  • Knowledge of the local area that SCF operates in (desirable)
  • A network of major donors or corporate sponsors (desirable)
  • Experience in digital marketing (desirable)

Development Opportunities

  • Contribute to our real-world implementation of a sustainable food system and community wellbeing initiative
  • Transfer your business skills to a community enterprise
  • Develop your mentoring capabilities
  • Understand effective governance
  • Contribute to strategic planning and ethical business development

Additional benefits

  • 20% discount on our online farm shop
  • Integration into our vibrant farm community
  • Attending our public events and farm celebrations
  • Participation in staff training opportunities
  • Travel expense reimbursement (up to £10 per meeting)

Remote working, with occasional visits to the Farm (40a Telegraph Track, Wallington, London SM6 0SH)
