Job description

Join a small founding team at a new neighbourhood cafe in Barnes.

Dee is a new independent neighbourhood cafe in Barnes, built to feel like a second home: warm, unhurried, rooted in good food and the community around it. We source most of our food from UK farms, roast our coffee on site, and take seriously the connection between what people eat and how the land is treated.

We're not a corporate operation. We're two people, Olessia and Antonio, running something we believe in, alongside our cafe manager and head chef. Now we're looking for two all-rounders to open the doors with us.

Cafe All-Rounder (Front of House & Kitchen)

This is a flexible role covering both front of house and the kitchen. Most shifts you'll be based in one or the other, with the odd hand on the other side when it's needed. It's never two jobs at once. Out front, you'll make coffee we roast on site, alongside specialty hot and iced drinks, juices and smoothies, and look after our guests. In the kitchen, you'll work with our head chef on prep for our seasonal Dee bowls, following our recipes and prep routines.

We'd love people who can do both. If you lean more towards the bar or the kitchen, that's fine: tell us, and we'll train you in the other side.

You'll be part of a small team, working closely with our cafe manager and head chef, where everyone pitches in. It's a busy, purpose-driven place, and we'd love someone who enjoys that.

What the role covers

  • Making great coffee and drinks: espresso, specialty coffees, hot and iced drinks, juices and smoothies
  • Welcoming and looking after guests, and keeping the floor running smoothly
  • Kitchen prep for our Dee bowls, following our recipes and prep routines
  • Opening or closing tasks for your shift, and keeping your area clean, organised and well stocked
  • Following food safety and allergen procedures

What's in it for you

  • Being part of the founding team of a new cafe, with your ideas heard
  • Working with coffee we roast on site, and food made from good UK-sourced ingredients
  • Training across the bar and the kitchen, so you can build your skills on both sides
  • Staff meals on shift and a staff discount

What we're looking for

Essential

  • Experience as a confident barista or in kitchen prep, ideally both. We'll train you in the other
  • Experience in hospitality, whether in a cafe, restaurant or similar
  • A warm, genuine manner with people
  • Reliability and a real team spirit
  • Happy to cover either front of house or kitchen shifts

Nice to have

  • Experience with specialty drinks, juices and smoothies
  • An interest in good food, where it comes from and how it’s made

You don't need to have worked in a sustainability-focused business before. But it should feel like something that matters to you, not just a line on a job post.

What Dee stands for

  • Food that nourishes people and is honest about the planet
  • A menu that evolves gently towards more plant-forward options over time and with the seasons
  • A space that belongs to the neighbourhood, Barnes and beyond
  • Service that feels human, never corporate

The details

  • Location: Barnes, SW13, South West London
  • Hours: Full-time or part-time considered. Shifts between 6:00am and 6:00pm, including weekends
  • Pay: £14.80 an hour to start, plus tips. We're an accredited London Living Wage employer
  • Start: As soon as possible
