Sales Associate (Borough Market Saturdays)

nibs etc.
Borough Market

Posted: 27/01/2020

Deadline: 29/02/2020

Compensation: £9 p/h

Paid Part-time

Job description

Borough Market is London’s oldest food market and is the vibrant home of many iconic food brands. Whether it’s local residents doing their groceries or people visiting from overseas, thousands of unique customers visit the market every day. The market has strong commitments to protecting the environment and reducing waste, and the nibs etc. pitch is Borough Market’s first ever ‘refill’ stall. We are very proud to be part of what the market represents; how it is on the frontline of sustainability, and how we eat both now and in the future.

We are looking for a friendly, motivated, people-person, who loves food and sustainability as much as we do (!) to help run our Borough Market stall on Saturdays.

Compensation: £9 p/h

Reporting To: CEO/Operations Manager

Your Role:

  • Open and close the nibs etc. Borough Market stall; includes setup, cashing up, and taking down of stand.
  • Display and sample products as directed.
  • Manage Borough Market nibs etc. product inventory.
  • Take initiative to improve existing and implement new processes where it might benefit the company, further emphasise the company ethos and mission, and boost sales.
  • Engage with existing, new and all potential customers; bring customers to the stall with your infectious energy.  You are the face of the brand!
  • Be passionate about food, food waste and sustainability.  Genuine passion sells, without needing a ‘hard sell’.
  • You will be familiar with the brand’s ethos, sustainability practices and products, as if they were your own: educate the customer on how we are fighting food waste.
  • Be able to guide the customer through our range of products, and make suggestions based on their individual needs, diets, interests and palates.
  • Take initiative to explore visual merchandising strategies, measure and effectuate change that generates results, improves revenues and helps the company grow. Notice who is buying, how much, and if there are any trends
  • Ability to problem solve and offer excellent customer service: things can always go wrong and you need to be ready to quickly, efficiently, and politely deal with any situation that may arise.
  • Flexibility to work at popup markets: zero waste, christmas, craft/artisan markets, around London.
  • Communicate and liaise with your colleagues in a professional and informative manner.

Your Skills:

  • You speak (a) foreign  language(s) at a conversational level; not essential, but very helpful at an international tourist destination such as Borough market.
  • You are strong; setup/pack down requires the lifting and moving of wooden tables/stands
  • You are a good communicator: clear, concise and confident.
  • Certification: Level 2 Food Hygiene + Safety - please attach appropriate documentation.

The Company: nibs etc. makes delicious and nourishing sustainable snacks out of ingredients that would normally be thrown away, fighting food waste, and enabling customers to reduce their carbon footprint and have a positive impact on our planet, in so doing.

Our first product is our award-winning granola made from fruit and vegetable juice pulp normally wasted by juice bars and manufacturers; it is high in fibre, adds interesting textures and delicious flavours to bakes.  It is the most sustainable granola in the world.

We sell our line of juice pulp products direct to consumers via our shop at Borough Market and online. We also sell wholesale working closely with retailers and independent shops, cafes and delis whose missions and values align with that of the business; as in everything we do.  We aspire to source, produce, package, sell and scale nibs etc. in a way that is as sustainable and as minimally impactful to our environment, as possible. Our dream is to inspire change in people’s habits, far beyond the products we make, by fostering, educating and empowering our community with the tools to do so.  Living ‘Zero Waste’ is a necessity, not a luxury. We want to make it realistic, and attainable for all. We are redefining the concept of waste.

We are looking for passion-driven and innovative thinkers; diligent, keen to learn, take initiative and grow. If you’re that person calling out their friends for binned leftovers and ‘expired’ food, we want to hear from you.

About nibs etc.

nibs etc. is about making delicious, and nourishing sustainable snacks out of ingredients that would normally be thrown away, to fight food waste, and enable customers to reduce their carbon footprint in so doing. We work with juice bars around London to collect their 'waste' pulp, which is packed with flavour and fibre, and upcycle it into sustainable snacks. We sell our granola at Borough Market, and at zero-waste stores across London.
