Job description

Hours: Full-time, but with some flexibility possible

Contract type: Fixed term for 6 months

We are looking for a Senior Programme Development Manager (Public Health) to join our growing Food and Health Team. ShareAction is committed to working with investors and the companies they invest in to build and sustain a fair, just and healthy society. It is our ambition to build on our work on food and health, good work and climate change to create a broad health programme called ‘Long-term Investors in Public Health’ (LIPH). LIPH will build a coalition of investors committed to building a healthier society and reducing health inequalities.

COVID-19 has reminded us all how much individual and societal health matters, and how intrinsic it is to our economic wellbeing. At ShareAction, we want to capitalise on this moment and ensure that businesses, and their investors, play a crucial role in ensuring we achieve a healthy recovery.

This is a unique opportunity to design and lead a six-month scoping study to test and refine this concept. The successful applicant will conduct extensive stakeholder consultation and carry out desk-based research to develop a long-term plan for the programme.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Although your role will be varied and open to some change in the activities you will undertake, below are the types of activities that you can expect to be doing:

  • Design and deliver a six-month scoping study to refine and test the LIPH concept; ensuring programme outputs are delivered to a high standard and within the agreed timeframe;
  • Lead on consultation with key stakeholders, including investors, business and academic experts, and conduct desk based research to narrow down the potential list of health topics, identify potential advisory group members and explore how investors can influence policy makers at a global level;
  • Write a report to summarise the key findings and recommendations from the scoping study; lead on presenting these to internal and external stakeholders including ShareAction leadership and programme funders;
  • Develop a detailed long-term programme plan and theory of change for LIPH, including priority topics for programme inception;
  • Develop a risk management framework for LIPH; identify and take advantage of opportunities as they occur;
  • Act as the relationship lead with programme funders, building and managing positive relationships. Ensure all administration, monitoring and reporting requirements for the project are effectively managed to ensure that funders are kept up to date;
  • Work with the Head of Food and Health to develop a detailed proposal for long-term programme funding; build relationships with new prospects and secure new funding streams;
  • Maintain thorough understanding of food and health subject knowledge and keep up to date with new, relevant developments in the topic area.

Person specification

We are looking for a passionate, determined individual, with the following experience and skills:

ESSENTIAL

  • Experience working in the field of public health and a demonstrable understanding of how the corporate and financial sectors impact on society and health outcomes;
  • An understanding of the role of the investment system in driving positive change in corporate behaviour;
  • Experience of conducting research projects independently and writing research reports for non-scientific audiences;
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal and the ability to communicate complex information and ideas;
  • Experience in conducting stakeholder consultations, with the ability to build productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all organisation levels;
  • Exceptional organisational, project and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure, plan and prioritise work effectively and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritise and manage multiple competing priorities, completing work to the highest standard.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of preparation of funding bids and building relationships with funding partners;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel;
  • Experience of working with CRM systems, ideally Salesforce.
