We are looking for - Specialist Tractor Operator in Root Crops

We are looking for a committed, self-motivated team player who can undertake all aspects of crop production in doing so playing your part in helping us retain our position as a leading roots supplier in the UK.

The job role

As a Specialist Tractor Operator in Root Crops you will play a pivotal role in the lifecycle of our crop, from land preparation to drilling to harvest. Your key areas of responsibility will be:

  • Taking direction and then ownership for all activities whilst driving a fleet of John Deere Tractors, operating the following:
  • Ploughs
  • Ridgers
  • Destoners
  • Bedformers
  • Precision drill
  • Irrigation equipment
  • Large mechanical weeders
  • Self propelled Grimme Harvester and Grimme Cleaner Loader
  • Maintain and upkeep all machinery to the highest possible standard within the budgets set by the Farm General Manager
  • Able to maintain and upkeep all machinery to the highest possible standard within the budgets set by your manager. You are expected to be able to fix all machines whilst working on the job having the ability to use all tools provided.
  • In periods of downtime you are expected to work in the workshop maintaining all equipment as instructed by your line manager.
  • To complete and retain l paperwork associated with all operations, especially drill sheets, QA sheets, harvesting sheets, irrigation record keeping, spraying record keeping etc.
  • Ensuring that all check sheets you are provided with are completed daily and any issues are reported to farms manager.

Other important stuff about the role

This a fulltime contract, the days and hours of work are variable given the nature of the role; seasonal demand and uncontrolled factors such as the weather. You will be offered a very competitive salary including benefits. You get 28 days holiday a year, this does include bank holidays.

What we will be looking for in your skills set

  • Experience of working within a farm environment
  • Ability to use the latest technologies including GPS Autosteer Guidance
  • PA1 and PA2 qualifications
  • Valid Telescopic handler licence (desirable)
  • Practical experience of driving a tractor
  • Enthusiastic about sustainable farming
  • Driving licence
